Six weeks after the devastating Black Saturday Bush Fires the Upper Goulburn Landcare Network took on the role of coordinating volunteer support to help out the fire-affected communities. This network has 18 groups and 6 of them were burnt out including Kinglake, Strath Creek, Flowerdale, Cereberus Creek, Marysville and Yea River.
A recent study into fish populations of the lower Goulburn River has shown a diverse range of native fish exists. Although Murray cod (Maccullochella peelii peelii) are the most abundant large-bodied native species in the lower Goulburn River, few exceed the minimum legal size, now 600mm.

The Broken Goulburn Implementation Committee Community Education Grants support community education and awareness of environment related catchment issues. The grants of up to $4,000 are provided to non-profit community groups and schools to assist them to promote catchment issues within their community.
