Waterways & Floodplain Management

Our waterways program involves delivering activities to protect and improve the region's rivers, creeks and wetlands. The floodplain management program aims to build flood-resilient communities.

Flood Recovery

The Goulburn Broken catchment has been significantly impacted by the October 2022 flood event. Please read this page for recovery information.

Waterways

Rivers and streams within the Catchment are highly valued for irrigation, industry, urban water supply, stock and domestic water supply, recreation, habitat and aesthetic beauty.

Floodplain planning

Through our floodplain planning and management program we aim to build flood-resilient communities by capturing and sharing flood knowledge to ensure future developments are not unduly exposed to flood hazard.

The Goulburn Broken CMA acknowledges and respects First Nations people and the deep connection they have with their land and waters.

We acknowledge the Yorta Yorta and Taungurung people and their ancestors/forbears as Traditional Owners of the land and waters in the Goulburn Broken Catchment (and beyond). We value our ongoing partnerships with Yorta Yorta Nation Aboriginal Corporation and Taungurung Land and Waters Council for the health of Country and its people.

We pay our respects to Elders past, present and emerging and acknowledge and recognise the primacy of Traditional Owners obligations, rights and responsibilities to use and care for their traditional lands and waters.
