Flood Studies

Through the implementation of the Regional Floodplain Management Strategy, the Goulburn Broken CMA works with Local Government, Victoria State Emergency Service, Bureau of Meteorology, other agencies and the community to develop flood studies.

Flood studies provide information on the nature of flooding for a range of magnitudes – from small to large floods, which may inform flood mitigation, flood warning, land-use planning and emergency management.

Completed flood studies can be found in the Publication page. Draft flood studies can be found below.

Draft Flood Studies

This page provides access to DRAFT studies and mapping to foster input from stakeholders and the community.

These studies are at draft stage and should only be used for the purpose of providing feedback. These studies are subject to change until studies are adopted as final.

The Goulburn Broken CMA is conducting the Goulburn and Broken Rivers Flood Study to provide flood mapping for the Goulburn River from Lake Eildon to Shepparton, and the Broken River from Lake Nillahcootie to Shepparton, including for many areas which have not been flood mapped previously.

The flood study has been calibrated to the 2022 and 1993 flood events, representing the largest flood events in recent memory along the Goulburn River and Broken River and their floodplains respectively.

The community is invited to review the available mapping and provide input into whether the mapping reflects what was experienced during the 2022 and 1993 floods.

To provide feedback or for further information contact planning@gbcma.vic.gov.au  or (03) 5822 7700.
