South West Goulburn Landcare Network Case Study

Glenaroua Land Management Group has been hosting an annual planting day for many years and 2023 was no exception. This workshop brought together 161 people who planted 3,500 trees to support the waterway health of two creeklines covering a total of 3.5 kilometres.

The objective was to get people involved in management of waterways by excluding stock from entering the creek, reducing erosion and improving overall water quality. This was acheived through partnerships that have been formed over many 30 years of planting in Glenaroua - Landcare, Rotarians, Pajero 4WD club, Scouts, Secondary school students and general community members - all interested in giving their time to support others and improve the environment.

The mixture of planning for the event, thorough preparation and the provision of good food for the many volunteers achieved the outstanding results indicated. It is hoped that this biolink will continue into other properties as the creek continues downstream.

Property owner, Jan Evans (picuted) was extremely appreciative of what can be achieved during a weekend with a willing group of volunteers! Jan is looking forward to the future and imagines how the plantings will look 5 – 10 years, the benefits of shade and shelter and the improvements in water quality as the stock are excluded from the creek.
