Blackberry is a highly invasive introduced weed that impacts the environment. On private and public land the blackberries reduce productivity and amenity in addition to creating a harbour for pest animal species.
Treating weeds in public areas, such as Dabyminga demonstrated as part of this project, showcases Landcare’s profile in the community which encourages others to both manage their own weeds and brings people together through a purpose.
As part of the eradication of Blackberry, this project stabilised the bank through earthworks and plantings at Tallarook public hall. This project demonstrates how a project focussed on weeds can positively alter the visual amenity of a place and utilise indigenous species to do this.
