Mansfield’s Web of Life

The Web of Life project strengthens the Mansfield community by providing meaningful opportunities for people to connect with nature through naturalist events, workshops, and volunteer activities. It supports environmental education in local schools, fostering awareness and stewardship in the next generation. Community members are actively involved in hands-on projects, building pride and collaboration across the region. Practical incentives, such as subsidised stock-proof tree guards, help landholders establish new paddock trees, supporting both farm resilience and shared environmental goals. Installing nest boxes also enables the community to contribute directly to creating new habitat for local wildlife, deepening community engagement and care.
This project has strong opportunities for growth and new approaches. We plan to expand our school engagement model, building on the success of the Grade 5 nest-box initiative. We will also introduce new formats for naturalist and community events to engage a wider range of participants and explore emerging topics of interest. Strengthening nest-box monitoring will improve our understanding of wildlife use and give an understanding of which species we need to focus on in the future. Continuing the subsidised stock-proof tree guards will help more landholders establish paddock trees, creating opportunities for deeper community involvement and long-term biodiversity outcomes.
