Description:

The Strathbogie Ranges Conservation Management Network (SRCMN or Strathbogie Ranges Conservation) was formed in early 2011 and has been going strong ever since. The SRCMN works with a variety of partners (landholders, groups, Agencies) to tackle all sorts of conservation, biodiversity and land management issues, but is focusing on the most threatened ecosystems in the Ranges, including our precious wetlands (springsoaks & bogs), rocky outcrops and high conservation value forests.

Boosting Pollinators in the Strathbogie Ranges

Network caption

Pollinators are the core of our food production and with the decline in pollinators globally, it was a concern that the Strathbogie Ranges Conservation Management Network (SR CMN) wanted to address.

A unique project was established to provide a ‘pollinator box’ for approximately 100 people within the Strathbogie Ranges, which included a variety of indigenous plants that were beneficial pollinators. The project participants planted these plants throughout their gardens or within existing vegetation on farms, so they became a food source for insects, birds and bats.

It is hoped this project will launch a better understanding of the value of ‘insectariums’ or ‘nectar feeding plots’ both within our community and beyond. The value of insects into the future is paramount as we will continue to need food across Strathbogie, Australia and the globe.
