Goulburn Broken Catchment Management Authority (GB CMA) is continuing to rehabilitate and protect streams impacted by 2009 fires.

Goulburn Broken Catchment Management Authority (GB CMA) is continuing to rehabilitate and protect streams impacted by 2009 fires.

GB CMA River Health Team Leader, Christine Glassford has been very happy with the results from the work completed over the last twelve months and looks forward to continuing the rehabilitation and protection of the fragile streamsides in the fire affected areas.

"The Goulburn Broken CMA control works have been successful and very worthwhile, as the extensive post fire weed growth, predominantly blackberry, can now be seen to be dying back." Says Ms Glassford

"Some exotic tree removal, namely willows, will occur in the coming months, however further weed control work will not recommence now until next year."
The GB CMA would like to thank all landholders involved with this work for their assistance.

In addition to the control of woody weeds along major waterways, the GB CMA has employed a total of nine local people to work in three work crews from the fire affected communities to assist with fencing works in the fire region to protect and rehabilitate our rivers. To date a number of fences have been completed and in the coming month, the crews will also be involved with revegetation works.

If you have a waterway on or adjoining your property burnt in the 2009 fires, the GB CMA Fire Recovery work crews can be utilised to construct fences to control stock access to the waterway and if necessary revegetate at no cost to the landholder.

If you are interested in streamside management support, please contact the GB CMA staff at the Yea Office on 5736 0100 for further information on grant criteria or to coordinate a site meeting.
