The Goulburn Broken Catchment Management Authority (GB CMA) plans to provide water from Lake Nillahcootie next week to improve habitat and food sources for native fish, platypus and water bugs in the Broken River.

A rare local sighting of the Wrinkled Toadlet (Uperoleia rugosa), the December Frog of the Month as part of the Goulburn Broken Catchment Management Authority’s 2022 Year of the Frog community awareness campaign, was recently recorded.

Planning for the future

Planning is underway for the renewal of the Shepparton Irrigation Region Land and Water Management Plan. A workshop about the Plan, set for November, was rescheduled to February 2023. SIRPPIC members Kelvin Bruce and Heather du Vallon have kicked off discussion about the strategy and the need to plan for the future.

Flooding creates water quality issues in rivers and creeks

Widespread flooding across the Goulburn Broken catchment continues to create significant impacts for communities and the environment. One of the effects on the catchment’s waterways is decreased water quality as a result of flooding which is expected to be an ongoing issue into summer, as temperatures increase.
