Land-use mapping in the Goulburn Murray Irrigation District involves creating visual representations of how land is utilised in different regions, such as for agriculture, urban development or conservation. The maps help planners and policymakers make informed decisions about sustainable land management and resource allocation.
Goulburn Murray Irrigation District
This comprehensive land and water use mapping project has been undertaken periodically across the Goulburn Murray Irrigation District (GMID) since 2015-16 to 2021-22 to provide updated information to support decision making in the region. The Land and Water Use Spatial Mapping (and GMID Farm Irrigation Survey) data has been collated with technical reports and fact sheets providing a snapshot of land and water use in the region.
The GMID Irrigation Land and Water Use Dashboard is a publicly accessible and interactive tool to be able to explore the GMID focussed data further. This will be regularly updated as new data is collected throughout the Regional Irrigated Land and Water Use Mapping program. The Regulated Diversions Catchments data is to be presented on a similar dashboard will be available soon.
Regulated Diversions Catchments of Northern Victoria
This project included the large-scale spatial capture of land and water use data of regulated river systems within the GMW region of Victoria for the 2022/23 irrigation season. This project extended into the North Central CMA and North East CMA areas and data has been collated into a Technical Report.

Unregulated and Groundwater Diversions across Northern Victoria
The latest land and water use mapping project is the Unregulated and Groundwater Diversions Catchments of Northern Victoria (see below). This project covers the Goulburn-Murray Water Region of northern Victoria for 2023/24. A technical report and eight flyers have been developed showing the results of the project across each river basin.
