The opportunity to present Wilmot Road Primary School’s Civic and Citizenship Awards was a rewarding and inspiring experience, says Goulburn Broken Catchment Management Authority (CMA) Sustainable Irrigation Manager Carl Walters.

 Mr Walters was invited to represent the Goulburn Broken CMA at the school’s annual Wonders of Wilmot (WOW) Awards presentation on Wednesday, May 22. The awards recognise “outstanding” efforts of students in the fields of reading, spelling, writing, maths, performance, physical education and IT in each year level.

A Civic and Citizenship Award is also awarded to one student in each year to recognise their excellent social skills and positive attitude to promoting good citizenship.

This year’s WOW Civic and Citizenship Award winners were:

  • Prep: Seth Janenga;
  • Year 1: Fatima Raisi;
  • Year 2: Abbas Baba;
  • Year 3: Fatima Alhilfi;
  • Year 4: Ali Hussain;
  • Year 5: Mariam Alghazaly; and
  • Year 6: Sean Ryan.

Wilmot Road Primary School Acting Principal Simone Higgins said Mr Walters had been invited to present the awards to recognise and thank Goulburn Broken CMA staff members who were participating in the school’s after-school Learning Club. Goulburn Broken CMA staff work with Learning Club students every Thursday helping them with their homework and listening to them read.

Mr Walters said he had been very impressed by the enthusiasm and commitment of all the students, parents and teachers attending the WOW Awards assembly.

“It was a very enjoyable assembly, very capably led by the school captains,” Mr Walters said. “Year2/3 students performed great renditions of Waltzing Matilda and You Can’t Roller Skate in a Buffalo Herd, while the photographic presentation by three Year 6 students was also pretty creative”.

 “Congratulations to all the WOW winners on their achievements and for their great contribution to their school; it was a real pleasure to represent the Goulburn Broken CMA at such a special event.”
