Goulburn Broken Catchment Management Authority is pleased to announce that the Seymour and District Art Society are the new temporary custodians of the Upper Goulburn Art Collection. The Upper Goulburn Art Collection has been managed as a travelling exhibition by the Goulburn Broken Catchment Management Authority (GB CMA) with works displayed in Council offices, libraries and other locations around the upper Goulburn catchment for the community to enjoy.

Chris Doyle, a GB CMA Implementation Committee member involved with the collection said, "We are very pleased that the Seymour and District Art Society are able to take on the management of the collection, especially as they hope to be able to assist it to keep travelling around the catchment."

The Upper Goulburn Art Collection will be on exhibition at The Old Courthouse Gallery Seymour, coinciding with the Seymour and District Art Society exhibition Regeneration - New Beginnings, which opened on 26th June. Although not the impetus for the event, the exhibition title befits the Upper Goulburn Art Collection as the collection enters a new phase in its history.

The 13 works of the collection are the winning exhibits in special categories at the Tallarook Art Society exhibitions from 2004 to 2007. The special categories were sponsored by the former Upper Goulburn Implementation Committee (now the Broken Goulburn Implementation Committee) together with the Shires of Mansfield, Mitchell and Murrindindi and this is how the collection came about. The works fulfilled a brief of representing the beauty and natural environment of the upper Goulburn catchment.

The artworks reflect the natural beauty and high environmental value of the upper Goulburn catchment. "The Upper Goulburn Art Collection is an acknowledgment, record and celebration of a unique and special place to live. The collection promotes the community's understanding and willingness to work together as a matter of high priority to protect the values that we all hold so dear. It is this passion that has been captured within the Upper Goulburn Art Collection," said Mr Doyle.

The collection is available for viewing 7 days a week at The Old Courthouse Gallery, Seymour. Works from the collection will, from time to time, be on exhibition elsewhere in the upper Goulburn catchment as they are moved around for the community to enjoy. The collection is an important and special catchment asset reflecting the upper Goulburn region and its communities. I encourage all to visit it in its new home to enjoy and reflect on how you can contribute to the legacy we will one day leave to our future generations." Said Mr Doyle.
