The Goulburn Broken Catchment Management Authority (CMA) is pleased to announce the appointment of Charlie Sexton to the new role of Regional Landcare Facilitator to support sustainable agriculture in the region.

The Land and Biodiversity Team Manager, Steve Wilson explains, “As the Regional Landcare Facilitator, Charlie will be promoting sustainable farm and land management practices with the community, Landcare, farm production and industry groups alongside our Regional Landcare Coordinator, Tony Kubeil.”

“This role is a new three year Commonwealth funded position through the Caring for Our Country Initiative. Charlie will be able to assist groups to work towards the federal government’s Caring for Our Country (CFoC) sustainable farm practice outcomes. He will also assist with applications to CFoC, as well as provide feedback to the federal government on emerging issues, current attitudes and activities in the catchment relevant to sustainable agriculture practices and the needs of community Landcare and production-based networks.”

With an Advanced Diploma in Agriculture through the University of Melbourne and a wealth of farming and associated experience, Charlie is well suited to the appointment and his local knowledge through his work with the Gecko CLaN Landcare network provides a great background.  Charlie is also actively involved in his local community and has recently been acknowledged for his contributions to the local Benalla CFA being awarded the brigade’s Firefighter of the Year for 2010.

Charlie will not have to move far to commence this new role as his previous Landcare Project Officer position has been based with the Goulburn Broken CMA at the Benalla office where this  new position will also be located.

To register your interest in the Regional Landcare Sustainable Agriculture program, please contact Charlie Sexton at the Goulburn Broken CMA on (03) 5761 1506 or via email at charlies@gbcma.vic.gov.au.
