New agriculture and natural resource management leadership program announced

An innovative Community Leadership Program specifically designed for those working or volunteering in the Agriculture and Natural Resource Management sectors will be delivered in the Goulburn Murray region during the first half of 2016.

Northern Victoria’s Community Leadership Programs, the Alpine Valleys Community Leadership Program (AVCLP) and Fairley Leadership have partnered with the North East Catchment Management Authority and the Goulburn Broken Catchment Management Authority to bring this community leadership training to the region.

This is the third time that the highly acclaimed program has been delivered by AVCLP in North East Victoria, but the first time it has been brought to the Goulburn Valley.  AVCLP Executive Officer Kim Scanlon is thrilled to be able to bring the program to a new region.  “Feedback from the participants of our first two programs has been tremendous, with many of the participants telling us that they have developed the confidence to take on leadership roles in their workplace and community.  We are looking forward to partnering with our Goulburn Valley colleagues to provide this opportunity to a broader range of people” said Ms Scanlon.

The seven day program is delivered over four months, and the participants study leadership, communication, community capacity building and leading change, decision making, governance and networking.  A highlight of the course is an overnight study tour to visit innovative and entrepreneurial projects, and to meet the leaders that have developed them.

The program will commence in March and registrations are currently being taken.  To register, and for further information please contact Kelly Behrens from the North East Catchment Management Authority on Kelly.behrens@necma.vic.gov.au or 0427 351 411.

The project is supported by the North East and Goulburn Broken CMAs through funding from the Australian Government’s National Landcare Programme.

The Goulburn Broken CMA acknowledges and respects First Nations people and the deep connection they have with their land and waters.

We acknowledge the Yorta Yorta and Taungurung people and their ancestors/forbears as Traditional Owners of the land and waters in the Goulburn Broken Catchment (and beyond). We value our ongoing partnerships with Yorta Yorta Nation Aboriginal Corporation and Taungurung Land and Waters Council for the health of Country and its people.

We pay our respects to Elders past, present and emerging and acknowledge and recognise the primacy of Traditional Owners obligations, rights and responsibilities to use and care for their traditional lands and waters.
