The Minister for Environment and Climate Change Gavin Jennings MLC has announced that the new Chair of the Goulburn Broken Catchment Management Authority (GBCMA) is Dr Huw Davies.

Dr Davies will oversee an annual budget of more than $20 million in State and Federal funding.

These funds are used to deliver extensive environmental works in conjunction with landowners, Landcare, Goulburn-Murray Water and government agencies.

Current GBCMA Acting Chair Mr John Pettigrew said he welcomes the appointment of Dr Davies, he brings valuable experience and talents to the position and I wish him well.

"Under Huw's leadership the GBCMA will not only continue to focus on investment in water use efficiency, salinity, water quality, river health, biodiversity and the perennial issues of pest plants and animals, but prepare strategies to meet the challenges of Climate change and other emerging issues."

"Huw is taking on an important and challenging role as Chair of the GBCMA. The GBCMA plays a vital role in bringing people together to work in partnership with local, state and federal governments to address important environmental issues."

Huw Davies lives in Benalla and operates a cattle property near Glenrowan. He was previously a member of the GBCMA Board from 1997 to 2003 and he has extensive management and directorial experience from membership of both private and public sector boards.
