Goulburn Broken Catchment Management Authority Chair, Stephen Mills, hopes the recent prosecution of a landowner and contractor for the illegal extraction of gravel from the Goulburn River will serve as a warning to anyone else considering illegal works on a catchment waterway.
Last spring a handful of dairy and beef farmers within the (SIR) were asked to participate in a Dung Beetle project. Ten lucky farmers from Cobram to Lockington, whose soil types and irrigation practices where suited to the project, were selected. The farming types included 8 dairy farms with herds up to 500 head of cattle and two beef properties with herd numbers around the 200.
And so 12 months on....here's an update.
Endangered woodlands and wetlands on private properties are being protected thanks to funding from the Australian Government’s National Landcare Programme.
