The Goulburn Broken Catchment Management Authority (CMA) has submitted a proposal for funding farm irrigation efficiency activities across the Goulburn Murray Irrigation District to the Australian Government's On-farm Irrigation Efficiency Program following a call for applications in November this year. This proposal has been developed with a consortium of regional partners.

The 2009/2010 Environmental Watering Program is soon to commence in the Barmah wetlands and waterways using 2.35 gigalitres of environmental water to support the health of wetland-dependant flora and fauna.

Karen Brisbane, Landcare Corporate Partnership Facilitator at Goulburn Broken Catchment Management Authority, has just returned from a twenty-six day trip under the auspices of the Landcare Fellowship to the USA. Karen was chosen to represent Victoria by a steering committee and was sponsored by a small group of dedicated individuals within Landcare.

Goulburn-Murray Water, Goulburn Broken Catchment Management Authority and the Northern Victoria Irrigation Renewal Project will be represented this week at the Irrigation Today - Meeting the Challenge conference in Swan Hill.

The Goulburn Broken Catchment Management Authority (GB CMA) has been successful in receiving funds from the Victorian Water Trust to undertake an integrated river management program along the lower reaches of the Sunday and Sugarloaf Creeks.

North Eastern Victorians are encouraged to pick up the latest wildflower identification brochures produced by the Goulburn Broken Catchment Management Authority (GB CMA) and the Department of Sustainability and Environment (DSE).

The Goulburn Broken CMA is offering landholders an $8 subsidy per meter for fencing along waterways burnt in the February 2009 fires. Riparian land is critically important to river health, for soil stability, sediment and nutrient capture, as well as providing food and habitat for aquatic and terrestrial wildlife. River Health Team Leader for the Upper Goulburn Area, Christine Glassford, advises that "Recovery of vegetation along stream frontages following fire is even more crucial, given surface runoff is higher and faster, with greater capacity to move more soil and debris. Riparian land requires urgent protection to permit it time to recover unimpeded by impacts of stock."
