The 2010 Regional Achievement and Community Awards were held Saturday October 23rd at the Mercure Hotel, Ballarat, featuring the Broken Boosey Conservation Management Network (CMN) as finalists for the Environment & Sustainability Award.
Broken Boosey CMN Coordinator and representative for the group Janice Mentiplay-Smith said “Even though the Award went to the well-deserving RiverConnect program in Shepparton, the CMN were thrilled to reach the finalist stage. The Network in being a finalist, was in very good company”
“It’s a great testament to the fact that a CMN can really make a difference on the ground locally and with their regional community”.
Sponsored by Prime Television, The Commonwealth Bank, the Weekly Times, and category sponsor, Parks Victoria, the Environment & Sustainability Award acknowledges individuals, groups and organisations that show a proven passion and dedication to reducing environmental impacts in regional and rural area.
With diverse environmentally-focused projects such as the fox control baiting program, biodiversity education days for both primary and secondary schools students, an annual biodiversity celebration day, a nest box installation and monitoring program, threatened plant species propagation and weed control programs, the Broken Boosey Conservation Management Network proved themselves to be worthy finalists, and look forward to continuing their work in the Broken Boosey catchment.
