Macquarie Perch enjoy Warm Waters

It's that time of year again when the Macquarie Perch enjoy the warmer waters and start their spawning cycle. Each year between October and December, when water temperatures exceed 16°C, the Macquarie Perch lay their eggs in riffles and runs of rocky streams. The eggs then drift downstream and lodge amongst the cobble and will stay there until they hatch 10-11 days later.

Expression of Interest for NRM projects now open

The Expression of Interest for Natural Resource Management Projects in the Goulburn Broken Catchment in 2013-14 is now open. The regional community, agencies and other stakeholders are encouraged to submit an Expression of Interest (EOI) for projects that address priorities of the catchment community.

Majority of Round 1 Farm Water Program projects completed

Lower Goulburn River November Environmental Flows

Salt Disposal Re-activated

Winter salt disposal from Public Groundwater Pumps in the Shepparton Irrigation Region has recently been completed. This is the first time in over a decade that winter salt disposal has occurred.

Great Growling Pobblebonks

The Frogs and Farm Dams Project, a collaborative project between the Longwood East Landcare Group and the Goulburn Broken Catchment Management Authority (CMA), has begun for 2012. The project includes planting in and around dams to increase frog and tadpole habitat, and recording which types of frogs are using the farm dams.Frogs identified from the acoustic recorders placed near seven dams include the Plains Froglet, Common Froglet, Plains Brown Froglet, Spotted Marsh Frog, Perons Tree Frog and some growling Pobblebonks.

A further boost for Hollands Creek

Funding available for wetlands and remnant vegetation protection on private land in the northern plains

The Goulburn Broken Catchment Management Authority (CMA) is running an incentive program for wetland and remnant protection on private land in the northern plains of the Goulburn Broken Catchment.  Incentives are available for fencing and alternative watering points, including dams and troughs, where stock had previously used the protected area as a source of water.
