It is perhaps the first river in Australia with its own dedicated website.

And the information about the Broken River will flow on www.thebrokenriver.com.au

The Goulburn Broken Catchment Management Authority, as part of the Bringing Back the Broken River project, has launched a new and innovative website.

The site allows website surfers to find a variety of information about the river including history, geography, plants, animals and people.

Authority riverine strategies manager Wayne Tennant said the website would give the local community an opportunity to learn more about an underrated natural resource.

"The Broken River is a beautiful and significant river, and this website gives us all the opportunity to discover why it is so important to the local environment, economy and community," Mr Tennant said."The information about river plants, animals, people and projects on www.thebrokenriver.com.au will help us understand why we need to restore and protect our local waterways."

The website will be updated on a regular basis with river news and events to keep information interesting and relevant.

The authority is also inviting the community to participate by asking people who use the Broken River to send in stories and photographs about the river for publication on the website.

To contribute, go to the "River Yarns" section of www.thebrokenriver.com.au, or for more information phone the authority on 5822 2288.
