Mammals, birds and frogs
The river is home to an abundance of important native wildlife which includes the aquatic mammal specialists Platypus and Rakali (or Water Rat), a very wide range of bird species including waterbirds (ducks, Dusky Moorhen, herons, egrets, spoonbills, etc.), strongly water-associated birds such as the Sacred Kingfisher and Laughing Kookaburra, and a number of frog species including the Eastern Banjo Frog (or Pobblebonk), Common Eastern Froglet, and Peron's Tree Frog.
