As a primary producer from Cosgrove South with a strong background in the education sector, Peter has a wealth of experience as well as strong knowledge and understanding of the wide range of issues facing the region.

In embracing the challenges ahead for the next 12 months Peter said "I look forward to working with the Board to provide leadership, through delivering on our strategic priorities and contributing to our vision of ‘healthy, resilient and increasingly productive landscapes supporting vibrant communities'."

CEO, Chris Norman, is delighted with the appointment adding "The Goulburn Broken CMA staff are looking forward to the new direction and enthusiastic leadership under Peter Ryan. Peter's experience in the leading change in the education sector will be extremely valuable to us over the next 15 months."

In addition to the new Chair appointment, the Board has endorsed the appointment of John Pettigrew, local fruit grower and farmer, as Deputy Chair.

The Goulburn Broken CMA Board are responsible for the effective management of natural resources in the catchment. Members of the Board are drawn from within the region and are appointed by the Minister for Environment and Climate Change, Gavin Jennings MLC.

The appointment of Peter Ryan as Chair is from 1 April 2010 to 30 June 2011, a critical period in the transition of the CMAs across northern Victoria into one new Natural Resources and Catchment Authority, as described in the Victorian Government's Land and Biodiversity White Paper.

In accepting the position, Peter paid tribute to the outgoing Chair, Dr Huw Davies, who led the Board through a difficult transition period and was a valuable contributor to the Authority since 1997.
