Wyuna Local Area Plan
Vision: “Pride in the Wyuna catchment with total participation in care of the land”
Our objectives:
- To look back at what was initially here,
- To consider the present state of our environment
- To look forward and plan for the future
Area: 21,000 Hectares
Launched: 10 July 2001
Issues covered in the plan:
- Flora and Fauna
- Water Quality
- Nutrients
- Salinity
- Surface Drainage
- Flooding
- Pestplants and animals
- Water Trading
- Government resources and Policy
- Private financial pressures
- Changing farming enterprises
Priorities:
- Protection and enhancement of remnant vegetation, creating an environment that will attract the Grey-Crowned Babbler (and other species) back to the Wyuna area.
- Exposing the community, especially school aged children, to the issues faced by farmers and the environment, and engaging the community in activities that will help address these issues.
- Investigate new and alternative ways of managing groundwater and alternative uses for saline water
