Lake Mokoan
As part of the Victorian Government’s Our Water Our Future action plan, Lake Mokoan will be returned to its natural state as an important wetland system.
This $60 million project is part of an integrated program of water saving measures being undertaken by the Government to create a more efficient irrigation system and increase environmental flows along Victorian rivers.
About 44,000 megalitres of water will be made available each year to directly improve the health of the Broken, Goulburn, Snowy and Murray rivers.
Once Lake Mokoan has been decommissioned, the site will be rehabilitated. The project is one of the biggest wetland restoration projects in Australian history.
The result will be a new, unique regional asset, a showcase of future water usage that will provide benefits for industry, communities and environmental sustainability.
