Types of Funding Available

There are a number of different funding sources and processes that the Goulburn Broken CMA uses to fund high priority natural resource management activities for community groups and regional organisations in the catchment through the EOI process and other separate calls each year.

These are summarised below.

1. Caring For our Country (CFOC)

Source: Commonwealth government

Funds: In 2011/12 the type of projects funded were:

  • Threatened Species Plan implementation
  • Environmental Management Incentives
  • Increasing and managing native vegetation (includes fencing, revegetation, rabbit control)
  • Controlling Weeds Of National Significance (WONS)
  • On-ground farm improvement incentives

Targets: Regional organisations and community groups

Application: Through Goulburn Broken EOI Process, or separate application completed by the group submitted directly to the Commonwealth. See the 2010-11 Business Plan released on www.nrm.gov.au for priority areas and actions (expected late November with applications due around April).

Note: This funding stream replaces NHT, NLP and NAP funding. The introduction of this new program has also removed Envirofund and Community Water Grants. A new small grants program, CFOC Community Action Grants will now be run in their place. The first round closed 22 October 2009. See below.

2. CFOC - COMMUNITY ACTION GRANTS

Source: Commonwealth government 

Funds:

  • Groups of farmers or land managers working on sustainable farming or improving natural resource management
  • Indigenous partnerships involved in protecting or improving the environment 
  • Community groups involved in biodiversity conservation, environmental protection or managing natural resources

Targets: Community groups (not individuals)

Application: Separate application

3. Victorian Landcare Grants

Source: State government

Funds: Generally targeted pest plant and animal , salinity, soil health, native vegetation protection/restoration and Landcare support projects.

Targets: Community groups

Application: Through Goulburn Broken EOI Process

4. Small Community Action and Education Grants

(replaces Shepparton Irrigation Region Catchment Education and Awareness Grants and Communiyt Education Grants)

Source: State Government 

Funds:

  • Awareness and education of the catchment and related environmental and regional issues including salinity, water quality, biodiversity and pest plant and animals.
  • Projects that involve a number of groups and have wide community benefits with broad promotion of catchment issues will be given a higher priority.
  • Up to $5,000.

An annual call for projects is made around November/December and close January/February.

Targets: Community groups, schools and regional organisations in the Goulburn Broken catchment.
